A Screencastify Tutorial for Students – How Easy is It To Learn VoIP?
My first screencastify tutorial is about the new service called screencastify. Screencastify is a tool for Mac OS X that allows you to cast your voice over a computer-generated video. This is a great way to share your speaking voice and build up confidence as you are presenting. If you’re going to teach yourself how to make screencasts, this is a great place to start. In this article I will give a brief overview of the tutorial and tell you whether or not it’s worth your time to take it on.
One thing I’ll mention right from the start is that the tutorial is for students. Adults who are familiar with using online tools can certainly learn here, but there are no advanced courses to buy or special software needed to use this service. What you need is a microphone and a web browser. It’s free to sign up and use. The one big feature that sets this tutorial apart from the rest is that it will record your voice and save it as a VoIP-enable file so that you can use it online.
This tutorial has two parts. The first part is a 30-minute long screencast that walks you through everything you need to know from setting up your account, to recording your voice and playing the voice over the video. The second part of the screencastifies includes the actual screencast itself. Students can see a live demonstration and listen to their teacher demonstrate how to use screencastify. Here’s an important thing that goes in the second part of the screencastify tutorial:
The second part of the video tour explains the differences between your normal recording and what you can do with a VoIP-enabled file. In addition, it gives an example of how to combine two recordings together. It also explains one of the most difficult aspects of using this technology, which is the “casting.” It shows students how to cast to multiple devices. Finally, the tutorial ends with some final tips and tricks.
The biggest issue that I have seen repeatedly is that most screencast tutorials are designed for IT professionals who already know how to do this. The Screencastify tutorial is not one of those. It was created and taught by a non-IT professional, which made it much more difficult for the average student to understand. If you’re looking for a way to learn how to cast to several devices at once without having to worry about cables, then this is probably not for you. However, if you need a simple explanation of how VoIP works so that you can learn how to set up your own business using it, then this is a great tutorial to follow.
A couple of friends of mine are majoring in communications and have used screencastify to gain valuable hands on experience. They’ve been able to take advantage of the various modules and learn each one by heart! Their understanding of VoIP has improved dramatically since they started taking this course. You’ll be able to tell from their appreciation of the free videos that screencastify offers that the people behind the product really do care about helping students get a solid education. After taking their course, they’re planning on going to grad school because they really did enjoy it.
